Minecraft redstone circuits?

Ok, so i just want to establish that i know how redstone circuits are made and everything, i just dont know what you can do with them. Ive made tons of door-opener things, but ive read that huge contraptions can be made with redstone circuits. Without going too much into detail, what kind of complex things can you make with redstone circuits?
