Why is my '93 Chevy Cav RS shifting into reverse really rough and then going into a normal idle?

If the car is running, or idling, when I put it in reverse, it shifts really hard and the it eases into a normal idle within one second. What could this be? Will a new filter kit help? Or is it the Flywheel or clutch?
