reverse is the only non synchronous gear in the trans. the clutch has to completely disconnect power for a smooth shift. if yours is not capable of doing that, you should either adjust the clutch if if is a cable operated type or check the fluid level in the clutch master cylinder if it is a hydraulic type. if it is a hydraulic, id look for a leak also.
